MAKING A FACIAL ESSENCE

The wild abundant landscape of our farm in Sussex is a place of provenance. We source not only ingredients from the land itself but also inspiration: in the heart of the aroma you will discover the heart of the land that led us on this journey. Each product in our beauty line emanates its unique floral signature whilst being unmistakably AMLY.

A rich understanding of the sensitivity of our ingredients to movement and heat, as well as the way they combine for maximum therapeutic effect, is a hugely important part of our work. We create and use the highest-grade essential oils, extracts and ingredients available, and place as much value in the sensitivity of the way the plants are grown and picked, as to how they are stirred and handled throughout each phase of the process. Our Bio-Fermented Facial Essences and follow an intricate process from the heart of the AMLY meadow to the palm of your hand. These concentrated formulas boost and deepen the effects of AMLY’s silver- rich face mists.

A star ingredient of our Meadow Dew Bio-Fermented Essence is British native mallow, while for our Nocturnal Nectar it is healing honey. Marvellous mallow gently works against irritation and inflammation and is deeply moisturising, soothing and plumping. Honey is known for its tissue-regenerating and clarifying properties. Once the mallow is gathered and dried, and the honey collected from the beehives, they are introduced into unfiltered bio-fermented apple cider vinegar made on the farm.

The apple cider vinegar contains a ‘mother’, which comprises strands of proteins, enzymes and friendly bacteria, and it is in this ‘mother’ that numerous health benefits reside. Naturally cleansing, nourishing and refreshing, bio-fermented apple cider vinegar is brimming with amino acids and antioxidants, delaying the appearance of wrinkles and stimulating circulation. Containing alpha hydroxyl acids, it gently helps to dissolve dead skin cells, revealing healthy and vibrant new skin.

During the infusion process the apple cider vinegar penetrates deeply into the dried mallow flowers and honey, so their nutrient values can achieve optimal release. These infusions are stored in pristine glass jars on the shelves of our alchemical kitchen and are left to rest for a week, during which time the mixtures transform from a soft cloudy liquid to a sparkling honey colour, finally sinking into a dark, rich amber. There is no rush in the AMLY process: our careful and measured approach is key to ensuring maximum potency, and our skilled blenders know exactly when that has been achieved. We then hand-pour the mallow and honey infusions through a soft, unbleached muslin mesh, allowing the ingredients to gently drip through. The water phase is a magical hand blending of these filtered infusions with the mineral-rich spring water that flows from beneath the AMLY meadow and our gently amplified Rose Quartz water.

We also slowly stir in a high concentrate aloe vera at this stage. Perhaps one of the most therapeutic benefits of the essences comes next. During the essential oil phase, we synergize oils that are carefully chosen to create potent actions within the facial essence formula, combining them by hand with the rest of the ingredients. They rest for a further three days before we pour the elixirs into their bottles, ready to supercharge your skincare routine.
